GLASS LUME

vetro-a-lume-museo-leopold-harvard

Descrizione

A Murano glass lampwork is an ancient art that has achieved a unique and universally recognized technical-operational excellence. The importance of this particular process will be the subject of a study, and a teaching proposal that will begin with a reflection on the work of the two most famous lampwork glass masters, originating in Dresden, Leopold Blaschka (1822-1895) and his son Rudolf (1857-1939).

As you know, these two talented artists performed a large amount of educational models to prestigious institutes and universities, such as the Zoological Institute of Vienna or the University of Harvard in Massachusetts. They were responsible for the attainment of perfect reproductions of specimens of animals and plants, which 800 scientists were using for their research.

Starting from this experience, and to better understand the sublime technique of glass candle, the museum will trace with the help of Mauro Vianello their way proposing candle works, specifically marine specimens that come to life in the glass, in the same colors, the same streaks and transparency defying even the most watchful eye and expert.
