The restoration of the St. Ursula Cycle

The Accademia Gallery, in collaboration with Save Venice Inc. will present the restoration project of the St. Ursula Cycle, one of the absolute top of the museum's collection, and for the artistic quality of the paintings to the always shown affection by the public.

The restoration is fully supported by Save Venice Inc. with contributions from The Thompson Family Foundation, Thomas Schumacher and Matthew White, the California Chapter of Save Venice, and The James R. Dougherty, Jr. Foundation and includes the restoration of the entire cycle painting in subsequent batches.

The first phase of the work already completed, was preceded by a phase of study and preliminary diagnostic analysis conducted since 2010 by the Scientific Laboratory of the museum and the Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration in Rome, it began with the arrival in Cologne, the first telero performed by Carpaccio for St. Ursula School, as well as the work that had conservation problems common to the whole cycle. The intervention, in 2013, was performed under the direction of the work of Matthew Ceriana and with the technical coordination of Maria Chiara Maida, by Anna Maria Marcone (technical manager), Carla Zaccheo, Francesca and Paolo Capanna Scarpitti of ' Institute for Conservation and Restoration.

The second phase began in August of 2016 with the start of the intervention sull'Apoteosi of St. Ursula, by ICR and direction of the work of Caterina Bon Valsassina. He continues in the Gallerie dell'Accademia with the Arrival of the Ambassadors and restoration Back Ambassadors under the direction of the work of Giulio Manieri Elia and the technical direction of Alpheus Michieletto. The conservation work is supported by a series of diagnostic tests, coordinated by Ornella Salvadori, head of the museum's scientific laboratory.

The restoration will be carried out by a consortium consisting of the CBC and by Egidio Arlango.
