Speaker: Andrea Grigoletto, Italian Institute of Castles
The conference will focus on the most important stages of the defensive system of the Venice lagoon, one of the most important strategic areas in the world, set to become the second site in Venice on the UNESCO World Heritage. It will start from the works of defense of the Serenissima at the inlets, then touch the French intervention (Forte Marghera and change the intended use of the smaller islands) and the Austrians (when the lagoon becomes a huge naval base Habsburg) to finish with the horse Italian fortifications between '800 and' 900.
Andrea Grigoletto: in the role of vice-president of the Coordination for the recovery of the Entrenched Camp of Mestre, took care of the conversion to civil uses of the military structures of the lagoon and the Venetian hinterland.
He has subsequently graduated in Law at the University of Padua with a thesis on "Disposals of property of the State and the special procedures of the Code of cultural heritage and landscape and the new military order code" and is the author of numerous papers and articles on the subject.
He is currently treasurer of Section Veneto the Italian Castle, solicitor of Italy Nostra and practicing lawyer in Venice.
