Avanscena. International Festival of Costume and Set Design

From November 17 to 19, at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, will be held the fourth edition of Avanscena. International Festival of Costume and Set Design, in collaboration with the Centro Studi Theatre and Opera. The Festival will be a unique opportunity to investigate new trends in the field of scenography and theater costumes, paying particular attention to the work of the workers who act behind the scenes.

The theme of this fourth edition is Black Box | Black Box, a title that encapsulates a double meaning: on one hand reminds one of many ways to call the stage, on the other hand indicates that the device is capable of collecting the memory and, if necessary, to become a tool to reconstruct the past moments.

The numerous guests, through a rich series of lectures, performances, workshops and round tables, will investigate the basis on which we build and defines performance art and theater of our time. Many will be the in-depth sections, which will enable to dissect the topic: from philosophy to aesthetics, from the pre-cinema to contemporary cinema, from digital scenography excellence of Italian workers, the scene painting to puppetry.

Two exhibitions will frame the event, enriching it with an important added value: Video-Survey 2016 (Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Room Eleonora Duse) is a photograph of contemporary theater told by artists, writers, dancers, choreographers and actors, who will try to answer the question: What is the scene today?

Black Box (Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the room ceiling; Turin, Room - Italian Center for Photography), will be an experience of augmented reality in which the spectator-actor component may be modulated and balanced in various ways.
