From the portrait to the icon: the charm of an actress through photography.
The photographic collection of the 'Archive Duse is a priceless treasure.
The amount and variety of photographic prints are preserved there, they are able to return all the appeal of Eleonora Duse during the years of its activity, in the nineteenth and twentieth century.
A selection of private portraits and shots laid in costumes will lead the visitor to discover this amazing actress, woman and sublime artist, and his theater. Along the exhibition it will be possible, in fact, see some of the most beautiful photographs of Duse: images that have helped to build the fame of this artist and to hand down the memory to this day.
Among the works on display, as well as a large number of youthful portraits, even photographs of the Florentine Mario Nunes Vais, the Spaniard Pau Audouard and some of the most significant authors of American photography, including Aimé Dupont, Joseph Byron, Arnold Genthe and Edward Steichen.
The Eleonora Duse room, open to visitors since 2011, was born with the intention to make accessible to the interested public the precious heritage preserved in the Archives Duse. The original materials related to Archive are displayed in rotation, in a series of temporary exhibitions to deepen one or more aspects of life and art of this actress.
The Archive, born in 1968, on the occasion of the donation of Eleonora Ilaria Bullough, Sister Mary Mark, nephew of Eleonora Duse, has been enriched over time as other important bequests; among these, the last in order of time, the one received in June 2015 from the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York.
The room is open only by appointment, visiting hours are therefore indicative.
